OS X came back up, but after several minutes (without restarting any viewer) the computer froze with the message: "You need to restart your computer. I had to shut down the Mac using the power button. I was able to Cmd-Tab (OS X equivalent of Alt-Tab) out of Firestorm, but the pointer was still missing. Naturally, that made it almost impossible to continue. Shortly thereafter the second problem started - the pointer disappeared. Eventually I decided to continue without right-click capability as long as I was able to do so. Restarting Firestorm fixed that for a short while, but then it recurred. ![]() Then the first problem started to occur - I lost the ability to right-click. Then one day I started Phoenix and it said an update was available, so I installed Firestorm.įirestorm worked a couple of times and I liked the interface. I was entering Second Life on a regular basis using my Apple computers and, primarily, Phoenix Viewer and Cool VL Viewer. I also have an XP laptop on which I did not install Firestorm. ![]() My current computers are an iMac and a Macbook Air running OS X 10.7 (Lion) and a PC running Windows 7. There are indications that the source of these problems is a recent Firestorm beta. It's as if the official viewer was designed to frustrate noobs and drive them away.I have been using computers since the Sinclair and currently I am having the most bizarre and serious problems I've ever had. My absolutely highest recommendation: Download them all, try them out, keep what works best for you, uninstall the rest - always keep the Official LL viewer installed if you go with a third-party viewer - best for any troubleshooting problems: if it works on LL viewer then your other viewer is borked, if it's broken on LL viewer, then it's your entire computer or SL that is borked.Ī lot of long time SL users will say that SL 1.2x was the best LL viewer ever and that when SL 2.0 came out LL totally messed it up big time, and never recovered. I tried it and didn't care for it, but its power was not lost on me. "SL Photographers") - but it requires major relearning of the interface or a lot of time "customizing" it to be "normal". The big "wow" right now, but those evangelizing it, is this Black Dragon viewer - what Firestorm is for creators, Black Dragon apparently is for Snapshotters (A.K.A. ![]() Then, in my estimation, you have the Firestorm-level of features, must-have if you're a builder or creator - also the most popular because it's so old and still continually developed. Catznip would be the next most "feature-rich" - its big claim to fame is the way it allows you to manage your inventory and keep it that way, and the next update (Animesh and Bakes on Mesh) is expected presently.Kokua is probably the closest to the Official viewer in terms of features and performance, albeit with RLV support. Then it's a grab-bag:įirestorm is the most feature-rich, but also a bit bloated with features most casual users never use (and crash-prone if your computer isn t up-to-snuff). The best is the official Second Life viewer from Linden Lab. Great, so my question is since I haven't used windows in so long, what is the best viewer for sl for windows as far as running the game smoothly and good graphics? ![]() I just got a new windows laptop for Christmas, used to go on sl with a mac but I have the sl viewer like I had on my MacBook and the graphics don't seem that
